POSITION: Cast on top of miscellanea under bed (377) at S. end of chamber (see photos 1149, 1150, 1136, 1141 and 1143).

379(a). Dimensions: <> hole on rim 89.0 54.0 24.0 50.5

<> Curved section.

A ceremonial shield, of wood, of openwork, covered with stucco, gilt and inlaid with ebony (Negroes). The symbolical device represents the king as a human headed sphinx wearing the crowns of Up. and Low. Egypt, trampling upon African (southern) foes of Egypt. Behind the king a face, above which a Nekhebet (Buto) hawk holding in its talons the <>-sign. The whole device is surmounted with the winged-solar-disk. To the right, in front of the King, a tablet bearing three vertical lines of hieroglyphic texts reading: - <> ? ? sic

The negroid foes (one on right with feather in his headdress) rest upon a mat under which is the <> emblem of land.
