314. MODEL BOAT (See 284, 306, 273, 310, 309, 287) 1

POSITION: S.E. corner of chamber; fallen between the black shrine-like chests and south wall; the bows were towards the west.

DIMENSIONS: L. overall (i.e., the longer axis of the boat) 116.5; Max. beam 16.5: Max. depth 9., cents. Cabin: L. 29; W. 14.5; H. 11.5 cents.

DESCRIPTION: Represents a carvel-built boat, with stem and stern pieces, main deck, cabin midships, overhanging forecastle and poop decks, and paddle steering gear upon crutches and cross-beams. Made out of a log of wood; the stem and stern of separate pieces of wood; shaped and planed with an adze. No thwarts (cross-beams) shown. The two ends (stem and stern) rise in an curved line and end in blunt points thus <> They also form under the bows and stern a sort of keel-piece which gradually melts into the rounded bottom of the boat.
