No 255. Third (Innermost) Coffin of Gold. 3
with carnelian, lapis lazuli and turquoise coloured glass
Collarette
Around the neck and below the flaps of the Nemmyes headdress a
collarette of "The Hawk" which is encrusted with lapis lazuli,
quartz and carnelian, green felspar and glass turquoise-coloured.
This collarette is auxiliary to the rest of the coffin; it
comprises eleven rows of imitation tubular beadwork having an
outer margin of imitation drop pendants.
Arms & Hands
The arms are crossed over the lower part of the thorax: upon the
wrists are two bracelets of auxiliary gold work encrusted with
lapis lazuli, turquoise and carnelian coloured glass: the hands
of burnished gold hold: left the crook, right the flail, which
are crossed over the centre of the thorax and reach as far as the
chin. (This insignia had suffered from the results of
decomposition of the anointing material, more especially on
account of their coils being for some reason made of bronze):
they were encrusted with sheet-gold, dark blue faience,
polychrome glass and carnelian (see photo).
