Each side of shoe
Broad bands = lengths of gold filagree, fitting at ends into gold
cylinders.
Narrow bands, circular pieces of wood, or possibly leather. Central
bar same as narrow bands.
Uncertain how these semicircles were fastened at top.
Loose in the shoe there was a flying duck or goose in solid gold. 1.9
long by 1.2 wide across spread of wing. In centre a round hole for
attachment to peg or thread. May have acted as clasp to semicircles
at top.
At end of side flaps there was another attachment over foot,
consisting of lattice work of thin gold wire, 1.2 cm. wide. This
covered with black substance (?)leather. Method of attachment to side
of shoe doubtful.
Treatment:
Treated remains of sides & heels with solution of Canada balsam
dissolved in xylene applied by means of a pipette.
