Impossible to say whether the robes formed part of the original
contents of the box. From the packing it was clear what had happened.
The plunderes had made a hasty search through all the boxes in the
chamber, flinging their contents all over the floor. The officials
then, before re-sealing the door, made a very hasty tidying up;
bundling objects into any box that lay handy, irrespective of what
its original contents had been. In the present case they had crunched
and bundled the garments together, folding in with them sandals and
other objects, crammed them into the box. They had used so much force
in doing this that the open work gold toe-thong of one of the sandals
had been forced, not only through the sole of its own sandal, but
into the sole of the one below it.
