264 A COW'S HEAD UPON PEDESTAL

MATERIALS. Wood covered with gesso-gilt except lower part of neck which is covered with gesso varnished black. HORNS: wooden core covered with thin sheet of copper or bronze and then varnished black. EYE-BALL: crystalline limestone. PUPIL OF EYE: probably obsidian. ROUND EYE AND ALSO EYEBROW: black glass. On oblong wooden stand varnished black. No inscription. TREATMENT. Cleaned with warm water: waxed.
