264. A COW'S HEAD UPON PEDESTAL

POSITION. In centre of room, facing west, behind and between poles of the Anubis palankeen (261) and quite near the three TAZZE (265). DIMENS. Max. H. (including pedestal) 91.6; pedestal 40 x 26.8 x 7.6; cms. DESCRIP. Neck swathed with a piece of linen, tied round throat, and much decayed. Head carved of wood, ears and part of throat gesso-gilt; remainder of neck varnished with black resin. Pedestal varnished with black resin. (For further details of materials see note by A. L.) REMARKS: A small heap of short pieces of rushes upon floor before this god.
