boxes, etc. cannot be removed from their slots without first loosening the sides of the chest. This will require long and carefully technical work in the future. Again without taking the chest to pieces the warped portions could never be strengthened.

Round the outer margin of the lid the text is incised & filled in with blue pigment (names and titles etc.). Round the inner margin of the centre panel of lid, the text is incised and filled in with a light yellow pigment resembling ivory. The texts round the four sides of the chest are incised & filled in with a light yellow pigment to resemble ivory.

At the back is a large wooden dd <> symbol bearing the prenomen of the king - incised & filled in with blue pigment.
