398. WRITING-HORN (see 387).
POSITION:
Lying among a number of baskets thrown helter-skelter near left
side of doorway of chamber (see photo 1136 under Nos. 382, 372
and 368).
DIMENSIONS:
L. 38.5; W. 29.4; thickness 0.65; cents.
DESCRIPTION:
A thin board of hard wood; covered on both sides with stucco on
linen; completely overlaid with plain (?) silver which by
decomposition has become converted partly into silver chloride
and partly into silver sulphide, the latter being present as
minute glistening crystals on the surface; small hole for (?)
suspension at one end; a horizontal inscription incised upon the
gold near edge of one side, which reads similar to the
inscription on No. 387 writing horn; with exception the last word
<> does not occur in this case. The text has been badly broken.
A large portion of side of board missing. The silver has not
buckled as in the case of the gold upon No. 387.
Condition very bad.
