377. BEDSTEAD (WOOD, STUCCO AND GOLD-FOIL) 1

POSITION: Resting on its side upon a heap of divers objects S. end of chamber (see photos. 1149, 1150, 1141, 1136).

DIMENSIONS: Max. L. 180.5; Max. W. 79.5; foot panel Max. W. 80.5 (at top), H. from ground 71.0, H. above frame 27.5; H. top of frame from ground: foot-end 43.5, head-end 49.0, centre 36.5, cents.

DESCRIPTION: A wooden bedstead: covered with stucco and overlaid with thin gold-foil which, owing to expansion and contraction, has buckled to a large extent.

The bed is supported on four legs of conventionalized feline form: at the head-end they take the shape of the animals' foreleg and at the foot-end the hind-leg. Fixed to the frame at the foot-end is an upright panel the width of the bed. To the frame is fixed the 'web' made up of 14 strands (sub-divided into three groups of 4 and 5 strands) of linen string interlaced diagonally in such a manner as to form a surface pattern of rectangular type repeated five
