370, GG. STAVE OF BOW (in bad condition)
(See 370, MM).

A compound bow of similar construction to 370, FF; the covering bark (?) of birch. End of one 'limb' broken off. Estimated length (from 'horn' to 'horn') 114 cents.; W at centre 2.3 cents. The bark covering ornamented: on either side of the handle or grip with finely veneered bark-work around the stave; near the centre of each limb with finely veneered bark-work including the King's prenomen and nomen; towards the ends of the limbs (near the 'horns') a similar decoration with names of King; and on the 'back' between 'grip' and centre ornament of limbs texts, horse & fan (see photo). The texts read: -

Portion of the string adhering to lower 'horn'.

String at centre 14 cents. from 'belly' - (warping should be possibly brought into account.)
