SHIP NO. 336 - RIGGING. H.E. Winlock
(H.E.W. Nov. 23, 1927, from Photos only).
MAST: Truck (A) is a block broad enough to clear the rigging
below, with 2 pairs of dead-eyes for the halyards. Below, 2
cleats (on 336 represented as lashed to mast as in Deir el
Bahri) are provided with 4 dead-eyes each for the boom slings.
Forestay (B) is tied about the mast head (above rounded
shoulder of truck) and made fast around the bow.
Shrouds and Backstays are apparently lacking on both Nos. 276
and 336. The function of backstays was probably supplied by
the halyards, the mid-yard halyards being particularly heavy
rope on No. 276.
YARD: (Upper Spar). Spliced in center and lashed CC.
Halyards, mid-yard pair (D) pass through lower dead-eyes of
mast truck (in No. 276 of heavy rope; in No. 336 of light).
Yard-end: Pair pass through upper dead-eyes. Both pairs are
made fast in stern (to rudder posts apparently on No. 336;
around stern on No. 276).
Yard Braces (F) (to trim yard around) are tied to ends of
yard.
Starboard brace hangs slack by bow. Port brace has been hauled
