Handlist description: Osiride recumbent figure of the King, lying on a funeral bier

Card/Transcription No.: 331a-6

For Mr. Howard Carter.
Extract from a letter from Mr. Cerný of 7.9.30.

"That Maia was in the king's service and in some way connected with the construction (or rather carving) of the king' tomb, seems to me very probable, if not certain. The expression <> is unknown to me from elsewhere (there is only <> - fem.! - for the tomb in general), but <> is well attested for the royal tomb (Spiegelberg, Graffiti, Indices, No. 547). But it is very doubtful to me that he was just an "architect", for the title mr k3t is borne e.g. both by the Vizier and the Royal Scribe, who had, both of them, merely the supervision of the work, but were not "architects" in our sense of the word. I do not know who made the plans of the Royal tombs and who was concerned with the technical side of the work. The title <> suggests that Maia was also only a "scribe".
