306. MODEL BOAT (See 284, 314, 272, 310, 309, 287) 1

POSITION: S.E. corner of chamber; resting upon black shrine-like chest (No. 293); bows towards west.

DIMENSIONS: L. overall (i.e., the longer axis of boat) 121.3; Max. beam 19.5; Max. depth 8.5, cents. Cabin: L. 30; W. 14.5; H. 13, cents.

DESCRIPTION: Represents a carvel-built boat, with stem and stern pieces, main deck; central cabin; overhanging forecastle and poop decks with 'look-outs'; and paddle steering gear upon crutches and cross-beams. Made of a log of wood; the stem and stern pieces of separate pieces of wood; shaped and planed with an adze. It shows on starboard and port sides the ends of 19 thwarts or cross-ties for yoking the carvel built sides. The two ends (stem and stern) rise in a curved line and end with blunt ends <>; they also form under the bows and stern a ridge like keel-pieces with gradually melt into the slightly flattened rounded bottom of the boat.
