282. BLACK SHRINE-LIKE CHEST 1

POSITION: South west corner, facing north, stood upon box 288. DIMENSIONS: H. 90.5, W. 26.5, D. 27.0, cms. DESCRIPTION: A chest of <>, <>, k3ri, 'Shrine'-shape (cf. Gardiner, Eg. Gram. O.18), having base in the form of a sledge. It is constructed of wood (rough work, wood inferior in quality), the external surfaces of which are completely coated with a black glossy resin. In front are two folding (leaf) doors of <> c3 form (cf. Gardiner, Eg. Gram. O.31), each leaf having a small knob, rather more their half way up, to which cord and seal were fixed (see photo). For type of seal employed - 'Jackal over nine foes' - see No. 302.
