The horizontal boards forming the frieze (top rail) panel and dado (bottom rail) of the side sections are joined up with either square or rebated glued joints, and are strengthened with cross-grained tongues inserted at intervals along the joints. The tenons at the ends of the horizontal bands, cut parallel to the grain (fibres) have been made sufficiently long to pass through the mortise holes of the upright end clamps, and protrude for insertion into corresponding mortise holes in the style of the corner posts. The meeting edges of the clamps & styles of the corner posts are rebated.
