238. THIRD (INNER) SHRINE

POSITION: Within the Second (inner) Shrine No. 237.

DIMENSIONS: Ground (i.e. base) measurement L. 337 x W. 209 cents. The four sides show a 'batter' (i.e. receding slope from ground upwards) from 15 m/ms to 21 m/ms per 1 metre vertical. Max. measurement (i.e. top edge of cornice) L. 356 x W. 229 cents. Height to top of cornice 188 cents. Height of sloping roof above cornice:- W. end ..., E. end ... cents. Max. height (including roof E. end) ... cents.

DESCRIPTION: Constructed of wood, covered with gesso, and overlaid with a thin sheet gold. It is made up of 12 separate sections - 2 roof sections; 4 cornice pieces; 2 side (N. and S.) panels; an E. end frame comprising frieze, corner pieces, and threshold; two doors, and a W. end frame comprising panel and corner pieces - mortised and tenoned together. The tenons are of wood and copper.
