227a CURVED RED WOOD STICK - elaborately veneered with ivory & ebony.

POSITION: In bundle of sticks (No. 227) wrapped in linen and lent against the south west corner of the interior of the outer shrine beside the upright S.W. strut of the pall. See photos. There were five sticks (Nos. 227, a b. c. d. e.) in this bundle which appears to have been untouched since the burial of the King.

DIMENSIONS: L. 108.4, W. 2.2 centimetres.

DESCRIPTION: A curved wooden stick elaborately veneered with ivory and ebony decoration:- a. Solid ivory curved top, carved in relief and stained with hunting devices on both sides - obverse, a hound attacking an antelope with desert flora in field - reverse, a similar scene, a salûki hound pulling down a calf. The devices are bordered with floral pattern. On the top end the following device in relief: <>

b. Collar of ivory striated with ebony.
