fastened together by bronze pins which transfixed the crossed legs, the pins being held at either end by conical caps of wood. The inner cap in each case was pierced by the pin, and acted as a kind of washer: the outer cap covered the point of the pin. Caps about 1 in diam.; projected .8. Upper part of legs oval in section, 3 x 2 at top, thinning down to 2.2 x 1.7 at crossing. Below crossing the legs thickened and were carved to represent ducks' heads. At 9 from top of leg a band of gold leaf 3 wide, with reinforced edges .2 wide. Below this, on inner half only, band of decoration 3 wide, in yellow bark Details of ducks' heads of ivory inlay. Open mouth ivory inlay, with a central slip of reddened ivory to represent tongue. Eye frame in gold or silver, with pupil of paste(?) of doubtful colour (in other stool red). Ducks' head at widest point 3 x 2.8.
