112 Wooden hawk, covered with gesso and gilt.

1. Position In S.W. corner of chamber: on floor: near mannequin.

2. Dimensions Pedestal 9.8 x 5.2 x 2 Hawk 21 max. x 7.2 (spread of tail) x 17.5 Disk 17.5 high x 18 wide.

3. Description Wood, covered with gesso, and overlaid with gold. Crowned with disk of same material. Legs & pedestal of metal, also covered with gesso and gilt. Pedestal & rounded piece of bronze, concave underneath to fit pole. Legs & pedestal in one piece? No holes in pedestal, the binding being carried straight round pole & over pedestal. Feathers of bird in relief in the gesso. Disk plain From a chariot ? Cp. 157 & 160. Treatment Cleaned with damp brush sprayed with celluloid in amyl acetate: Repaired with celluloid cement
