Dear Carter,

I have just fished out your letter from the formidable pile of "unanswereds" and am appalled
to note that its date was 14 January. The fact is I have been concentrating all my thought upon
my Language Book without looking either to right or to left. Now I have had two days
indoors with the 'flu, and am devoting myself to good work (i.e. letter-answering) as the
result.
