58. Ornamental alabaster unguent vase

Dimensions. Max. H. 65.5; H. vase 35.5; H. table-stand 30. Max. W. of vase including ornamentation 30.4. Max. dimensions top of stand 27.5 x 11.5 Max. spread of feet of stand 22.5 x 17.

Description. Ornamental two handled vase flanked by floral open-work of lotus and papyrus with hfn rnpt margins, embellished with blackened (?) steatite bosses and incised detail filled in with black pigment. Table stand of open trellis-work design with torus and cavetto cornice. The vase is cut out of one piece of stone and cemented and rivetted to stand which is also carved from one block of alabaster (calcite).
