50 Hinged Wooden Box

1. Position Centre of N end of tomb, in front of N. couch. Lying N-S. Knobs were on W. side, 'dads' on E. Had probably been moved by plunderers, as it was not square with other objects.

2. Dimensions L. 1.36, W. 36, H. 49 overall. Legs below box proper 18.8 cm. high.

3. Description Legs, top and end strips, knobs and 'dads' of ebony(?). Panels of a lighter wood painted white. Strengthened below box proper on both sides and ends by an open lattice work 10.5 cm. deep. This lattice work and the two battens under lid were of wood painted red. Two strips, 3.3 cm. wide, of ebony veneer across lid, into which were let, on front of box, ebony knobs 5.5 cm. in diam. Corresponding knobs on front of box. On each side of these pairs the two names of Tutankhamen were inscribed in yellow paint.
