596, S. STAVE OF BOW.

A stave of compound bow, composed of four thin strips of a hard
wood arranged parallel to one another and vertical in section and
having the intervals between then filled in with a gelatinous
substance (see section): the whole covered with bark (? birch)
which has been ornamented with bark decoration.
The end of one limb is gilt, while the end of  the other was
plain bark. L. 92.5 cents. The bow much warped and out of shape.
