584. VASE (CALCITE) IN FORM OF AN IBEX.
POSITION:
Resting on floor, centre S. end of chamber, behind bow-box No.
370 (see photos 1150 and 1149).
DIMENSIONS:
Max. L. 38.5; Max. W. 18.5 cents (i.e. pedestal).
H. to top of head (including pedestal) 27.5 cents.
DESCRIPTION:
An unguent vase of calcite in the form of an ibex at rest. The
mouth of the vase, which was fixed into the back of the animal,
missing.
Eyes inlaid with bronze and glass; tongue of ivory stained red;
details i.e. the markings in dark blue pigment.
Over left shoulder the cartouches of the King in dark blue
pigment.
Hooves and knees also coloured with a dark blue pigment.
The animal of one piece of calcite, the tail and ears of separate
pieces.
The horns missing - (?) originally of horn as see the horns of
the heads upon boat No. 578.
The vase has suffered much rough usage, the horns broken off &
the mouth attached to the back missing altogether.
