156, 4.R. Nekhbet (vulture) insignia of khat headdress

POSITION:
Sewn to linen khat-headdress, over crown of head and partly covering the body and tail of uraeus
insignia (4.Q.).

DIMENSIONS:
L. (span of wings) 20.5; L. of bird (top of head to tip of tail) 9.0 cents

DESCRIPTION:
Gold Nekhbet insignia of open winged vulture form; of thin sheet gold finely chased; neck, head and
beak in the round; shen-symbols in talons; the bird curved to fit the crown of headdress.
On the under surface are eight eyelets for fixing by means of sewing to the fabric of the linen khat-headdress. Thus when fixed it covered the crown of the head having its body over and parallel with
the uraeus (4.Q.).

REMARKS:
A mass of beeswax over head and neck to hold it; in conjunction with the uraeus (4.Q.), in place
within the wrappings

This bird shows similar characteristics of
vulture
auricularis, (Dand.), the social vulture, as 256, S, PPP.
