Facing the centre; <> with a vertical legend in incised gilt-gesso in
centre: <> and a transversal panel, on curved surface, comprising a petal
device. On the front end in centre of the rail and stile, a dark blue
faience knob, inlaid in light blue with the prenomen and nomen of the King.
On the sides of the lid: along coiled uraeus, winged, with <> and <> before
it, in gilt-gesso upon blue faience.

Remarks.
two of the bronze feet missing. Cord and part of seal hanging on knobs -
the seal, very bad impression, has crocodile and ? device. Box shows signs
of rough usage.

Treatment:
Brushed with dry brush: sponged with damp sponge & cleaned faience inlay
with damp brush. Refastened loose inlay & loose gold with celluloid cement.
Took out & replaced one faience panel which was "sprung", using paraffin
wax as cement. Filled hollows & blisters with wax.
