3. (Cont) were 4 strips of veneer, ivory, ebony, ivory, ebony. On one end a
knob covered with gold leaf, and corresponding knob on top of lid.
Feet end in shoes of copper.
Supports in corners of ebony with a strip of ivory round edge. This ivory
strip also fitted into metal shoes.
Carrying poles Extra slats of wood fastened to bottom of box near each
corner. To each of these were attached two bronze rings. (A in diagram)
Sliding in there were the four carrying poles of ebony.
Round wooden pegs used throughout.
