503 STOPPER FOR LARGE POTTERY JAR (ZEER)

POSITION:    
Lying on top of miscellanea (under bedstead 466) N. end of
chamber (see photo 1142).

DIMENSIONS:  
Approx. diam. 30.0 cents.

DESCRIPTION: 
Red pottery dish; inverted; covered with plaster; for the purpose
of stopper for some large mouthed vessel such as a "zeer" (water-butt).

REMARKS:     
This object is of interest for it may give a clue to the cache of
jars (found by Theodore Davis in the Valley) said to be from Tut-ankh-Amen's funeral.
