440, A. OVAL BASKET (MEDIUM SIZE) 1
(cf. No. 338)

POSITION: - On floor centre of chamber, beneath a mass of miscellanea (see photos. 1140, 1141). (A group of three baskets A, B & C.) DIMENSIONS: - L. 35.0; W. 18.0; H. 12.0, cents.

CONTENTS: - Nabuk fruit.

DESCRIPTION: - The method employed in construction appears to be same as with the native basket-makers of today. 'Skains' from the fruit-bearing stalks and fronds of the date-palm bound together and interwoven with fronds of the dôm-palm (note specs upon the fronds peculiar to the dôm palm), both having been first soaked in water to render them sufficiently pliable.
