403. A TABLE-SHAPED BOX 1

POSITION: Resting on top of miscellanea centre of chamber - (see photos 1141, 1140, 1138).

DIMENSIONS: 43.5 x 40.0 x 70.0 cents high.

DESCRIPTION: A lightly made table-shaped box: frame-work of ebony; panels of a red-brown wood (? cedar); the four upright corner-pieces elongated to form four slender legs; legs strengthened by means of stretchers (i.e. cross-bars); the spaces between the bottom of the box and the stretchers are filled-in with a fretwork device <> of ebony and gilded wood. (Note portion of this ornament - 367, P - found in box 367). The lid is hinged to the back rail of the box by means of bronze hinges. A gilded knob upon lid and front panel of box - these are incised with the prenomen and nomen of the King (respectively).

The rails and stiles of the lid, the stretchers and uprights on each side of the box are incised with hieroglyphic texts filled in with a yellowish pigment to imitate ivory - (see copy of texts).
