274. TWO STRAINERS
POSITION:
Placed one upon the other on the top of black shrine-like chest (275), on the S. side of the
doorway of the chamber.
DIMENSIONS:
Max. diam. 53, Diam. of bronze centre, 14, cms.
DESCRIPTION:
Two strainers, made of wood, covered with gesso, and having perforated bronze centre for
straining purposes.
These strainers were evidently placed in this chamber as symbolical of brewing a kind of
beer, known to us in modern times as 'Boozeh' or 'Booza', a primitive kind of turbid
alcoholic liquor made out of wheat, barley or maize.
REMARKS:
Condition of these strainers was not good, the gesso having buckled and parted from the
wood to a large extent.
