269, A. (5) A PAIR OF EAR-RINGS

A pair of ear-rings of rigged type, suspended by means of stud fastenings passed through
the pierced lobe of the ear.
The stud-like fastenings, comprising short cylinders inserted one within the other (the outer
one annulated and of 0.8 cms. diam.), form the main ornament, they having on the front
large bosses (3.3 cms. in diam.) incrusted with ornate design. The inner boss of the stud
being similar but of smaller dimensions (diam. 2.5, cms.).
Fixed to the front bosses are two pendent solar uraei which, like the bosses are also
incrusted.
The materials employed are gold, carnelian, faience and glass, the latter materials incrusted
upon the gold.
