269, A. (2) A PAIR OF EAR-RINGS
Max. L. 10.0, Diam. 5.5, cms.
A pair of resin and gold ear-rings, of pendent form, suspended by means of stud fastenings
passed through the lobe of the ear.
The stud fastenings comprise two tubular cylinders (Max. diam. 0.65, cms) inserted one
within the other (the outer cylinder annulated), their outer ends ornamented with scarlet
gold floral cups (of butter-cup form).
Attached to the fastenings; by means of loops of scarlet gold overlaid with yellow gold
granular work, is a circle (diam. 5.5, cms) of black resin and gold beads - the beads of
scarlet gold overlaid with yellow granular work.
Depending from the lower part of the circle, is a free swinging ornament of scarlet gold
with yellow gold wire spiral pattern, from which hang seven gold and blue faience bead
tassels.
The combination of the scarlet gold with applied yellow gold granular work, in contrast
with the black resin, gives a not unpleasing barbaric effect.
