DESCRIP:
BOX OF CARTOUCHE FORM, the body of which is made of a kind of redwood,
veneered with ebony, with knobs of ebony, faults in the internal surfaces made good with
stopping (whiting & glue). Upon front of the box (i.e. the flat end of the cartouche) the
Banner, prenomen and nomen of the king (see copy). Around the sides of the box are three
horizontal lines of text containing the kings protocol (see copy), these inscriptions are
incised and painted blue.
LID OF BOX, takes the cartouche form, is made up like the box of red wood with ebony
veneer (the border); the field of the cartouche gesso-gilt, with the hieroglyphs of the king's
nomen carved and applied on the gold surface and made of ivory and ebony (the ivory
stained in some cases red and black).
