261 (continued) Interior of Shrine 5
Interior:
Divided into four small and one large compartment (see
photos). The four small compartments contained cult objects -
(see 261, E, F, G, and H.) - wrapped in linen.
The large compartment contained jewellery, which had been
wrapped in linen and sealed, but had been disturbed by the
tomb-plunderers - (see 261, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P and Q).
Remarks:
Though in fair condition the wood was much shrunk, the gold
work bulged in many places. Weak places filled in with wax and
the whole surfaces completely waxed over. The gilding much
tarnished.
It would appear that this Anubis shrine, upon sledge &
carrying poles, the figure of the jackal god on top, was
carried like a palanquin on the shoulders of (?) eight men
(i.e., two to each pole).
